Guess what?
I found our first egg today!!!!
After just posting this morning that our hens are going to lay any day, it happened today!!!!
When I got back from picking my brother and sister-in-law up from the airport, the kids took them outside to show them around. Redmond came inside in a panic because Pancake was out of the chicken gate. We got her back in, but sure enough I turned around 5 minutes later and saw this:
My brother mentioned that she may be looking for a place to lay. She has become very sweet and affectionate lately, which I've read can be a sign of a soon-to-be laying hen.
So, I put some golf balls in the coop, hoping that if she did need to lay, she'd do it in there.
A few hours later, I went in the coop and found this beauty waiting for me:
I can't even explain how excited I was when I saw it. And, of course, everyone in my house was napping when I found it so I had no one to tell!
It's so perfect! Redmond has already claimed it for his breakfast tomorrow.
Can't wait to find more!!
