Bigger Socks

Yesterday while I was putting Redmond's socks on him I told him that his socks were getting too small.  He looked up at me and "bigger socks!"

Then, this morning while playing with his Mr. Potato Head, I told him the hat he picked was too big.  He looked in his bin, pulled out a smaller hat and said "smaller hat!".

LOVE that he is starting to learn opposites - just love seeing his little brain work!

I guess reading Go Dog Go! over and over again has paid off!

Dinner Fail

I was so excited to try out a new recipe that was in my Vegetarian Times magazine - even Jason was excited to try it.  It was a play on Shepherd's Pie with pinto beans and a cornbread top.  I got it all ready to pop in the oven.  See, doesn't it look good!?

Okay, so maybe it doesn't really look good.  But, it was going to taste good, mkay?
And, I'm not exactly sure what happened, but I somehow lost my grip and down it went.  Pinto bean filling everywhere!

This was LOTS of fun to clean up!  Thank goodness for a self-cleaning oven.
In the oven, into the drawer below the oven, all over all the baking sheets in there, on the kitchen floor and under the stove.  Ugh.  Such. A. Mess!

If this ever happens again, hopefully it will be with something that does not resemble dog puke.
Jason scraped up what could be salvaged and ate it for dinner (raw cornbread dough and all - sure do love that man!)  I'll try again in a week or so and hopefully will have more luck.  I will definitely use two hands when putting it into the oven next time!

It's Dave!

Redmond has this book called "Where's Dave?"

It's not a favorite, so we don't read it a ton, but he pulls it off the shelf every once in awhile. Basically, it's about a dinosaur named Dina trying to find her brother Dave.

Yesterday was unseasonably warm (in the 50's.  In January.  In Michigan! - it's now back to normal...in the 30's with snow on the ground :) so we headed to the park.  Redmond was under the slide and suddenly started saying "It's Dave!".  Jason and I couldn't figure out what he was talking about until we looked and saw what he was pointing at:

It's Dave!
Smart boy!!

Loveberry's Tree Farm

Like every year, we went to pick out and cut down our Christmas tree this year. Unfortunately we couldn't make it on a weekend due to weather and Jason having to travel for work so we missed out on the horse-drawn wagon ride, but it was still fun!

They even had a little rubber saw for Redmond so he could help daddy cut down the tree....

....but he was much more interested in running through all the trees :)

It didn't take us too long to find the perfect tree. And, thankfully, it didn't take Jason too long to cut it down.

Fits like a glove!

New year, new, more healthy, more organized and all-around more awesome me!

At least that's the plan.

I've always been one to not make New Year's Resolutions.  I always thought that if you want to make a change, then do it.  No need for a new year to make a change.  But, there really is no better time to start anew than a new year.  So, I have compiled a list of goals, not resolutions, that I hope to accomplish this year.

  • Be healthier.  Eat better, drink more water, exercise, eat more real food and less processed foods.
  • Blog more.  Both here and my other blog (dedicated to healthy eating and exercise)
  • Be more patient.  Especially with my kids.  They're little, they're learning and I'm their teacher.
  • Become more organized and less cluttered.
  • Keep a cleaner house.
So, there they are.  Thirteen has always been my lucky number, so this should be the best year yet!!

I'm coming back, I promise!

I have really lacked in the blogging department lately. My laptop died about a month or so ago so I have relied on my iPad for all my Internet usage. And, well, posting blogs from the iPad kinda sorta sucks. But, I have a new laptop on the way - it might even be here today. Yay!

I'm making a few changes in my life for the new year - getting back in shape, becoming more organized, having a cleaner house, blah, blah, blah. I also plan on blogging more. I want to document all the cute (and the not-so-cute) things my kids are doing, start actually posting all of the recipes I take pictures of with good intentions but never get around to, and post more about life in general.

So, soon I will be posting more. I need to post about the awesome dinner I made for Christmas Eve (Beef and Portabella Wellingtons!), our annual White Elephant Christmas party, Christmas tree hunting and just plain ol' Christmas. So yeah, I have lots of catching up to do.

For now I'll leave you with a picture of my baby girl who is getting SO big and giving lots of smiles everyday!
