Weekend Recap

It was such a beautiful weekend here in MI!!  This is the type of weather we've been anxiously waiting for allllll winter long!

We kicked off the weekend Friday afternoon by getting the seeds the kids got in their Easter baskets started.  Since we have no egg shortage here, we started our seeds in eggshells.  (keep an eye out for a future post on this!)

Jason got to work on our fish pond.  The waterfall had been broken all winter and we knew that needed to get fixed as soon as it was time to open our windows.  We love being able to sit in our living room and hear the waterfall at night.  Thankfully, it was a quick fix and he was done in no time!

We (well, mostly Jason) got a lot done on Saturday.

I started the day by making a batch of homemade Root Beer.  Jason and I tried it last night and it was....interesting.  We're going to give it a few more days and try it again.

Later in the morning, we headed outside where Jason built us a small, temporary greenhouse.  It's perfect for us to put all the seeds the kids and I planted!  Read all about how he did it here!

Jason also started putting poles in the ground where we plan on extending our chicken run.  We've got big plans for those little hens of ours!

Speaking of the chickens, they spent the majority of Saturday afternoon in the garden pecking, digging, and fertilizing it for us.  Oliver happily stayed right by their side to protect....and probably annoy....them all.damn.day.  He loves those chickens so much.

Jason (see, I told you it was mostly him!) also built the chickens a swing!  We haven't seen them use it yet, but it has definitely piqued their interest.

I spent the majority of my afternoon weeding one of our rhubarb beds.  I didn't take a before picture, but all that dirt you see?  You couldn't see it before I started...

The kids spent the night with Jason's parents Saturday so he and I went out to dinner and enjoyed a meal and a few beers.  Work hard - play hard, yo!

Sunday wasn't nearly as busy.  It was much more low key.  I did, however, bake my first sourdough loaf using a starter I've been carefully feeding for the past 10 days.  It was good, but not quite where I'd like it to be quite yet.

Then, in the afternoon, I headed to a pallet painting party with my girl Marie over at Family and the Lake House and a couple other girlfriends.

It was a very, very serious matter.

Ok, so not really.

It was a great time!

Everyone's pallets were amazing!  I admit, I don't love mine.  I don't like that you can't see the red writing.  Wish I would have thought about that when I picked my stain choice.  Ugh.

So, I think I'm going to touch it up a bit and hope I don't totally mess it up!  Wish me luck!!

And, that's a wrap!  Hope you had a great, beautiful weekend too!!

~ Sara :)
