Saturdaying

Wait, it's Sunday?  Already!?  How did that happen?

We had a super busy (and productive!) Saturday.  The kids went off to my in-laws for the day/night so it was time for us to get to work!

I started the morning doing a 5k.  I really had to talk myself into it.  Not because I didn't want to run, but because I was going alone.  I don't do alone very well in most cases.  I'm awkward and uncomfortable around a large group of people when I'm by myself.  But, I sucked it up and went.  It was for a great cause - raising money to help a local family fund the cost of their 5 year olds battle with leukemia (here is their Facebook page) - that definitely gave me the push to get up and go.

 Before and after race selfies.

I am so glad I went!  It was fun, I did see a few people I knew and I PR'd!  Woo-hoo!

While I was busy at the race, Jason packed up the kids to head to Home Depot to pick up paint and drop them off at his parents house.  By the time I got home he was already halfway done painting the living room.  Choosing a paint color for the living room wasn't quite as easy as the kitchen.  We each picked two samples and neither of us liked either one.  Jason got creative by mixing the two samples both together and with other paint we had left over.  We ended up with seven samples on the wall:

Which one did we choose?  You'll have to wait and see!

After we (and by we, I mean Jason) were done working inside we decided to head out to the garden.  Words cannot express how unbelievably excited we are for our garden this year!  I had the oh-so fun job yesterday to tear up all of the old carpet that the previous owners laid down in the garden.  Yes.  Carpet.  In the garden.  A whoooooole lot of it!  There were some places that there were three layers!  Grass and moss just grew right through it.  It was not easy!

Now, I don't know about you, but I have a couple must-haves for when I work outside.

Number one, have a good playlist:

Number two, always stay hydrated:

And, finally, number three - the buddy system:

Jason did some major work on the garden as well.  Stay tuned on a whole 'garden progress' post!

Every time we went to check on the chickens yesterday, this girl was perched on top of their feeder.  They're getting big enough to roost!

Sad note, we lost one of our Barred Rocks Friday night.  Not sure what happened, Jason found her unresponsive.  So sad :(   I'm really bummed out about it.

After our exciting day of running, painting and working in the garden, it was time to EAT!  Our small town really doesn't have much to offer in the way of restaurants.  If you don't want fast food (and we don't) or a chain, you're out of luck.  Being a vegetarian, this makes it even more difficult for me.  Believe it or not, Buffalo Wild Wings is my go-to restaurant because they have a veggie burger on their menu.  Oh, and beer.  And good appetizers.

When we got back home we had grand plans of scraping wallpaper off of the entryway and painting the laundry room.  Yeah, we sat down and were done.  I did, however send my birthday wish list to Jason.  My top two items are a pasta maker and these ah-dorable boots (in green).  My money is on the pasta maker.  Just 11 days till I find out!

So, that is our Saturday recap.  Now, to get the living room back in order before the kids get back.  You know, so they can make a mess of it :)

How is your weekend?  Hopefully it's beautiful!

  1. Looks like a pretty fantastic day to me! Buffalo wild wings sounds really good right now. When I worked we always used to go for Boneless Thursdays for lunch. The Asian Zing was my fave!
